The Saxony region of
the Federation of German Architects awarded its prizes on 27 April 2007, the jury
awarded a Recognition to the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig’s media
campus.
The media campus stands on the site of the Media
Foundation of the Leipzig Sparkasse and consists of three elements: the
conference and school building, the apartment house with a bistro and a glass
hall for events and congresses. The functions are clearly linked facilitating
smooth and flexible use. Alternating between open and enclosed spaces, one
perceives the inner workings of the building and its functions are conveyed to
the outside.
The enclosed courtyard offers
spaces for recreation and opens up to the Villa Ida. Built in 1883, the late
classical villa offers a strong contrast to the simplicity and clarity of the
reinforced concrete architecture of the new building.
