After 28 months, Düsseldorf’s
new Grand Hotel, the Breidenbacher Hof has been completed. The nine-storey
structure is a new, attractive address on Koenigsallee and Heinrich-Heine-Platz
giving the location an urban presence.
HPP’s elegant design makes reference to the legendary Breidenbacher Hof hotel
and makes a neat conclusion to the architecturally significant ensemble of
buildings on the site including the Wilhelm Marx House, the Carsch House and the
Kaufhof department store.
The old Breidenbacher Hof Hotel was closed in 1999 due to dilapidation and following
a survey advising that renovation would not bring the existing building up to an
acceptable modern standard, it was decided to demolish the hotel. The new
building that stands on the old site has 30,515 m² GFA and offers a
highly-attractive mix of hotel, apartments, shops, offices and an underground
car park.
