HPP Architects are currently designing the third
extension for ERGO Insurance Group and one of the group members, Victoria Insurance.
The fourth building phase will see the construction of a 170 metre long
building on the site on Fischerstrasse in Dusseldorf
that sits between the listed Künstleratelierhaus and the Golzheimer Cemetery.
This will provide the headquarters with a further
160,000 m³ GBA containing a total of 4,500 work stations. The foundation stone laying ceremony
will take place today. The transparent 7-storey structure
of almost 41,000 m² GFA, comprises three separate elements that are linked by
two delicate atria, it houses 900 work stations and an underground accounting
centre. The design of this structure has retained the direct connection between
the listed Künstleratelierhaus and the Golzheimer
Cemetery, at the same time the
chamfered front side of the new building opens out the space towards the Golzheimer Cemetery and permits generous views from
Fischerstrasse through the glazed atria into the historical cemetery.
Motivated by openness and transparency, the
architecture perfectly unites composition, innovation, functionality and
efficiency and together with ultra–modern technology this design contributes to
a positive balance of energies within the building. The ecological dialogue the client and HPP Architects
began in the 80’s resumes with this extension.
