The design-awarded bamboo parking garage in Leipzig has received an extension building. The new structure was necessary due to the raised need for parking lots as a result of the zoo’s new tropical hall Gondwanaland and Leipzig’s likewise extended and refurbished congress hall (also HPP Architects).
The independent building enlarges the existing structure to the North and offers 800 further parking lots on five levels. The design of the new garage continues the appearance of the original building, i.e. the shell is made of thousands of bamboo poles. This material was already chosen in the competition for the former garage in order to create a physical relation to the zoo’s exotic world.
