The Helmut Hentrich Foundation was set up in 2001 by Professor Dr. Helmut Hentrich, himself a winner of the Schinkel Prize and founder of the architectural partnership HPP Hentrich-Petschnigg & Partner. The foundation was set up in order to encourage and support particularly talented architecture students “for whom travel bursaries should facilitate their visiting buildings of architectural significance”.
The Board of Trustees of the Helmut Hentrich Foundation awards travel bursaries worth € 5 000 to students of architecture who produce excellent final thesis projects. The recipients are chosen by juries, independent of HPP and who work in close cooperation with the professors at leading universities.
The prize winners keep a sketch book during their travels that is given to the Foundation library on their return. The bursary was awarded for the tenth time in 2010.
