The design for the new building complex was the entry that won first prize in a competition held in 1997. From 2000 to 2002 the new office and service center, which consolidated nine Allianz insurance firms and about 2,500 employees at this location, was erected on the former AEG grounds at Theodor-Stern-Kai, with a view of the Frankfurt skyline.
The new building is located directly next to the River Main. In order to do justice to the special situation as well as the necessary urban development order, the preexisting construction was torn down. However, with its urban developmental and typological disposition the design for the Allianz Kai refers to the earlier AEG buildings and is presented on a lot of 23,000 square meters as a differenciated comb and transom building complex of 100,000 square meters of gross floor area.
