Within the confines of this project’s tight budget, it was possible to renovate this building, which had great significance within its urban context, in an innovative way. Since the existing office structure and its vertical access did not facilitate the new user requirements of flexibility, a centrally located stairway was expan-ded in coordination with the existing stairways on each floor in order to create new usable units measuring up to 400 square meters. This kind of organizational floor plan now permits the free and flexible division of the area units for purposes ranging from cellular office plans to combined office structures and open-plan offices.
