Shifts from open to closed surfaces and from light to shadow accomplished via jetties and setbacks are what lend this building ensemble its unmistakable per-sonality. The project’s physical context is characterizes by the open con-struction of freestanding mansions and parklike open areas boasting a number of landmark-protected buildings. These elements are interpreted in a particularly contemporary way. The flight of stairs to the garden also conveys a meaningful gesture to the building structure.
