For almost forty years the administration building of the Westdeutscher Rund-
funk (WDR) has represented an urban developmental point of orientation in Cologne. Its striking appearance, the exposed location, and the project’s proximity to the adjacent facilities of the WDR encouraged a sweeping reno-
vation in 2002. A new façade with improved soundproofing and insulation, the optimizing of the use of space, and the design of brighter, friendlier office areas made a substantial contribution to the upgrading of the building to modern standards.
