The German Embassy in Washington is currently being renovated. The property comprises the Embassy building itself and a semi-detached house, both designed by Egon Eiermann in the 1960’s, as well as a 1930’s building in the colonial style. The building has to be gutted as a result of asbestos contamination and the services have to be replaced in order to bring them up to modern-day standards. It is a challenging task to remain within the constraints of building law and at the same time respecting the original design.
